Table Sub-woofer 2010
This page will give you a short impression of my recently ( september 2010 ) made Subwoofer. It consists of the well known Peerless XLS 10"woofer, combined with the passive radiator.

The Table will be made of 38mm ( appr. 1 1/2 inch ) thick multiplex panels, to give it great strenght. The bare panels have been venered with some nice sheets of dark American Walnut veneer. The inside braces will be attached using the Festool "domino" system.

All panels are bevel sawed, and therefore can be venered before merging. The driver holes are chamferred to ensure good "breathing" of the large drivers, very important!
Outside dimensions of the cubic is some 40x40x40 cm. After substract the internal bracings, amplifier panel bitumen pads etc. the netto volume wil be some 30 litres.

The drivers will be fastened by metal inserts, which are tighted into the wood. These have M5 metric thread inside.

Vertical and horizontal braces are made and fixed by using "Lamello" cookies. A lot of air vent holes are drilled and the edges are routed by using a R=6 mm router bit. The heavy XLS woofer is fixed tight to the rear bracing, when the front M5 screws are fastened. A rock solid contruction is guaranteed by doing it this way.

The smaller MDF panal on the rear is ment to seperate the amplifier room from the pressure inside the cabinet.

The passive radiator unit is mounted on the bottom side of the cabinet / table. And therefore will be unvisible after the construction is finished.

Picture below shows the solid walnut table-legs. These legs are tappered, and bevel sawed and fixed by Lamello cookies to the edges of the table. Fine precission sawing is a must, to gaurante first-rate fitting on the edges.

Left, the flush cutted hole for the Hypex amplifier module can be seen. This will fit the Hypex DS-4.0 high power module.

Hypex DS 4.0
Output power 210W/8 Ω - 400W/4 Ω
Subsonic filter 12Hz/-3dB, 24dB/octaaf
Crossover subwoofer 30Hz - 120Hz, 18dB/octaaf
Bassboost frequency/level 20-50Hz / 0-6dB
Input Impedance 10 kOhm RCA
  1 kOhm High Level
Dimensions 267 x 267 x 70 mm
Weight 4.1 kg

Picture below shows the subwoofer upside-down.

The finished table-subwoofer measures approximately;

H x W x D = 43 x 45 x 45 cm

Weight = 32 KGS.

After sanding with 600 grain paper, the table is finished with oil. This gives the nice wood structure a warm tint.

All modules are fastened by using black Hex socket screws.

Picture's below show some impression of the finished product. This easy to build subwoofer table produces tight strong bass, in medium sized rooms. The Hypex module gives you many adjustments to absorb it in you're system.

Miss universe 2028 :) demonstrates the table subwoofer in my back yard on a sunny september afternoon.

Thanks for you're visit!
